Why I'm not concerned about link baiting

One of the oldest tricks in the book of blogging is link baiting. This is when the blogger posts entries that link to other popular sites. You see them all the time, especially on web design blogs ("Top 10 Content Management Systems", "Examples of Minimalist Web Sites", etc.). Link baiting is usually seen as an easy and unoriginal method of increasing our site traffic and, in some cases, can actually hurt your site more than help it. There is, however, a middle ground.
